Phong Nha cave – Number one wonder about the cave
Phong Nha Cave opened to tourism in 1995. Located in the center of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park; with a length of 7.729m; Phong Nha Cave is one of the world’s longest wet caves. Besides, it also holds several records for the highest and longest cave; the longest underground river; finest beaches inside; and the most splendid stalagmites; and stalactites (according to the BCRA in April 1997).
Phong Nha Cave is located in Son Trach communes of Bo Trach District. It is about 50km from Dong Hoi city. After buying ticket; you will take a boat to visit the cave. Sailing along Son river, you will have opportunity to feel the flow of calm, romantic with the blue water color as jade, the two sides are the corn fields stretching to create a painting of aquatic animals. After about 20 minutes on boat, the tourists will be to the entrance of Phong Nha cave. This cave is famous for its rock formation that bear intriguing names such as the “Lion”; “Unicorn”; “Kneeling elephant”; and “the Buddha”. After flowing about 19 km underground; Son river emerges from the mouth of this cave; draining a huge area of the limestone mountains around Phong Nha.
Leavingthe wet caves, the tourists will continue the journey with the dry caves such as Tien Son cave; Cung Dinh cave. Tien Son Cave is about 120m from Phong Nha cave with marvelous and gigantic beauty. To reach the gate of Tien Son, tourists will conquer 583 stone steps. This cave was discovered in April 1935 and opened for tourism in 2001.
Along the road to Tien Son cave; tourists can look the picture of the countryside with the wide rice fields; upland corns or small and nice houses along Son river.
Tien Son Cave owns a total length of about 980m. The tourists will enter the cave on a nice wood bridge.It is considered as a castle of fanciful stalactites; and stalagmites with thousands of colorful stalactites; and the magnificent marble stone columns that even over 20m high. According to the scientists; this caves formed about 250 million years ago.
