About Phong Nha – Ke Bang tourism, Quang Binh province

Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park is located in north – west of Quang Binh Province, about 40km from Dong Hoi city. In addition, it is bordered by Laos to the west and southwest.

Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park is located in the territories of communes: Xuan Trach, Tan Trach, Thuong Trach, Hung Trach, Son Trach of Bo Trach District; Thuong Hoa and Trung Hoa of Minh Hoa District; Truong Son of Quang Ninh District.

The national park, which has 85.754 hectares of a core zone:

– Strictly protected zone: 64.894 ha

– Ecological recovery zone: 17.449 ha

– Administrative service zone: 3.411 ha

Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park was established on December 12, 2001.

This park has got the diverse natural system.

The researches made a list of vascular plants, pointed out 193 families, 906 genera and 2651 vascular plant species with 116 species listed in Vietnam Red Data Book. Besides that, the fauna surveys listed 735 vertebrate species, 132 mammal species, 338 species of birds, 96 reptile species, 96 reptile species 96 reptile species, 45 amphibian species, 124 fish species with 91 species that are listed in Vietnam Red Data Book and 72 species that are restricted range species.

In Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, there are some ethnic groups, such as Ruc and Arem who are the two smallest ethnic groups in Vietnam.

Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park was recognised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) as a world heritage site in 2003 and 2015

Phong Nha Cave

Phong Nha Cave opened to tourism in 1995. Located in the center of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park, with a length of 7729m, Phong Nha Cave is one of the world’s longest wet caves. Besides, it also holds several records for the highest and longest cave, the longest underground river, finest beaches inside and the most splendid stalagmites and stalactites.

Phong Nha Cave is located in Son Trach communes of Bo Trach District. It is about 40km from Dong Hoi city. After buying ticket, you will take a boat to visit the cave. Phong Nha is famous for its rock formation that bear intriguing names such as the ‘Lion’, ‘Unicorn’, ‘Kneeling elephant’ and ‘the Buddha’. After flowing about 19 km underground, Son river emerges from the mouth of this cave, draining a huge area of the limestone mountains around Phong Nha.

Tien Son Cave

Tien Son Cave is about 120m from Phong Nha cave with marvelous and gigantic beauty. To reach the gate of Tien Son, tourists will conquer 583 stone steps. This cave was discovered in April 1935 and opened for tourism in 2001.

Along the road to Tien Son cave, tourists can look the picture of the countryside with the wide rice fields, upland corns or small and nice houses along Son river.

Tien Son Cave owns a total length of about 980m. The tourists will enter the cave on a nice wood bridge.It is considered as a castle of fanciful stalactites and stalagmites with thousands of colorful stalactites and the magnificent marble stone columns.

Paradise Cave

This cave is located in Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park’s core zone, about 60km from Dong Hoi city. Impressed by the beautiful and spectacular stalactites and stalagmites inside this cave, the British cave explorers named it Paradise Cave. This cave is 31,4 km long, its height can reach to 72 m and 30 – 150 m wide. According to the cave explorers, it is the longest dry cave in Asia. In June 2011, Paradise cave had established 3 records in the Vietnam Guinness Book of Records (Vietbooks), included

– The longest cave in Vietnam

– The cave has the most magnificent stalactites in Vietnam.

– The longest wooden bridge in Vietnam.

It can be said that Paradise Cave is the most beautiful wonder of the Creator on earth, an underground palace in the heart of Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park world natural heritage.

Tourist will be taken by golf cart (1.6km) from the main gate through the jungle, then climb to the mouth of the cave. When discovering Paradise cave, tourists seem to get lost in the fairy tale place on Earth and you will understand why it has that beautiful name.

Son Doong cave

Son Doong cave is located in Tan Trach communes of Bo Trach District. This cave was found in 1991 by a local man named Ho Khanh but until April 5th 2009, this cave was discovered . It is near 6km long, 150m high and 200m wide.

It is famous for the diversity of geology, topography, and geomorphology. There is a large underground river inside the cave. Its ceiling is formed by beautiful and spectacular stalactites and stalagmites.

In the middle of the cave is the sinkhole where tourists can see the sunbeams shining. With a rainforest inside the cave, Son Doong looks like an underground paradise. It is considered as one of the most beautiful natural caves and the largest in the world.

Tu Lan cave system

Tu Lan cave system is loacated in Tan Hoa communes of Minh Hoa District. It is about 70 km North-West of Phong Nha. This system was discovered in 2009 with 8 caves: Chuot cave, Hung Ton cave, Uoi cave, Ken cave, To Mo cave and Tu Lan cave.

You should not ignore the opportunity to exlore this system. To come these caves, you will hike in the rainforest, climb the mountain, pass the rivers and immerse in a beautiful nature. You will swim in clear lakes, look the spectacular stalactites and stalagmites in the caves.

Going camp outside the caves and having the meals with the local food is the great experience.

Tien Cave

Tien cave and Tien cave 2 are at the end of Tu Lan cave system. It is located in Cao Quang communes of Tuyen Hoa District. Tien cave was found in 2014 and Tien cave 2 was explored in 2016.

You will be surprised by the extraordinary beauty of these caves. The cave’s roof is wide and decorated by colorful stalactites and stalagmites.

En Cave

En Cave is the world’s 3rd largest cave, was found in 2009 by British explorers. This cave is 1,6km long, includes 3 gates: 2 gates are at the foot of the mountain to the southeast and the northwest, the other is at halfway up the mountain. Sunbeam shines into the cave that makes a great picture.

The roof of cave is about 100m high and 170m wide. At the mouth of the gate, you will see a blue lake and the small. This is a great place to go camping. In sunset, thousands of swallows come back theirs net inside the cave and this is the reason why this cave is called En cave – Swallow cave.

Chay River – Dark Cave

Chay River is one of the tributaries of Son River, originating from Chay Waterfall. Chay River – Dark Cave is located in Son Trach communes of Bo Trach District and about 50km from Dong Hoi city. This cave is 5.258m and 80m high. When sailing along Chay River, you will have opportunity to feel the flow of calm and romantic with the blue water as jade, the two sides are the corn fields stretching to create a beautiful painting.

Dark Cave was discovered in 1990. It is often called “The small version of Son Dong Cave”. With a very strange beauty, the cave is home to many lakes, a water temperature of about 18 degrees. Inside the cave there are many great things to see and enjoy! You will also have a great experience with the mud bath and immerse yourself in peaceful nature.

Sinh Ton Valley

This valley is described as a twiggle star in Phong Nha – Ke Bang national park. The valley is attractive because of extraordinary ecosystem with karst mountain, underground river, diversity of rare and precious species of animals and plants.

Mooc Stream – a fairyland

Mooc stream is located in Thuong Trach communes of Bo Trach District and about 65km from Dong Hoi city. This is a cool stream, under the rainforest. Its name always makes everybody Mysterious.

Mooc Stream is a great option to discover the wildlife, relax and wallow in the cool water. This will be a nice experience for your family and friends.

Botanic Garden – Wind Waterfall

Botanic Garden is in 20 Quyet Thang road, covers an area of 41.8 ha in Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park. In July 2014, this garden was recornised as a destination for ecotourism. This is one of the most attractive destinations in Phong Nha – Ke Bang national park.
